Foster's Australia Day Promotion (no longer online)
Foster's is a popular Australian brand of beer. For Australia Day, January 26, 2002, we programmed a web-based promotion in conjunction with Liquidus Marketing. The Talk-O-Matic is an interactive sonic experience allowing site visitors to type a message and choose a character to speak the message. Via integration with AT&T NaturalVoices software, the website converts the message to speech in the appropriate voice. When the visitor is happy with the result, he may save the message and have an E-mail notification sent to a friend. This E-mail gives the friend a link back into the website, where the spoken message is integrated with a Flash-based marketing message.
A mass opt-in mailing was performed a few days prior to Australia Day to encourage customers to visit the website. Many others discovered the website and promotion via the viral marketing mechanism, and many of those in turn sent messages to their own friends. Anyone may visit the website simply by entering the URL, but in this case the user is required to enter her birthdate to confirm that she is over 21.
